THE INFLUENCE OF COBALT ON CRYSTAL STRUCTURE AND MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF NIMNSBB2 HEUSLER ALLOYS

transition.In the late 1990s Pecharksy and Gschneidner reported a magneticentropy change in Gd5(Si2Ge2) that was about 50% larger than that reportedfor Gd metal, which had the largest known magnetic entropy change at thetime. This giant magnetocaloric effect (GMCE) occurred at 270 K, which islower than that of Gd (294 K). The MCE occurs below room temperaturethese materials would not be suitable for refrigerators operating at roomtemperature. Since then other alloys have also demonstrated the giantmagnetocaloric effect. These includeGd5(SixGe1−x)4, La(FexSi1−x)13Hx and MnFeP1−xAsx alloys. Gadoliniumand its alloys undergo second-order phase transitions that have no magnetic orthermal hysteresis. However, the use of rare earth elements makes thesematerials very expensive. Ni2Mn-X (X = Ga, Co, In, Al, Sb) Heusler alloysare also promising candidates for magnetic cooling applications because they12ThesisVu Thi Huonghave Curie temperatures near room temperature and, depending oncomposition, can have martensitic phase transformations near roomtemperature. These materials exhibit the magnetic shape memory effect andcan also be used as actuators, energy harvesting devices, and sensors. Whenthe martensitic transformation temperature and the Curie temperature are thesame (based on composition) the magnitude of the magnetic entropy changeis the largest. In February 2014, GE announced the development of afunctional Ni-Mn-based magnetic refrigerator. Denoising of GPS structural monitoring observation error using wavelet analysis

DENOISING OF GPS STRUCTURAL MONITORING OBSERVATION ERROR USING WAVELET ANALYSIS

In the process of the continuous monitoring of the structure’s state properties such as static and dynamic responses using Global Positioning System (GPS), there are unavoidable errors in the observation data. These GPS errors and measurement noises have their disadvantages in the precise monitoring applications because these errors cover up the available signals that are needed. The current study aims to apply three methods, which are used widely to mitigate sensor observation errors. The three methods are based on wavelet analysis, namely principal component analysis method, wavelet compressed method, and the denoised method. These methods are used to denoise the GPS observation errors and to prove its performance using the GPS measurements which are collected from the shorttime monitoring system designed for Mansoura Railway Bridge located in Egypt. The results have shown that GPS errors can effectively be removed, while the fullmovement components of the structure can be extracted from the original signals using wavelet analysis.

Anharmonic effective potential, local force constant and correlation effects in XAFS of BCC crystals

Analytical expressions for the anharmonic effective potential, local force constant, Displacement-displacement Correlation Function (DCF) CR and Debye-Waller factor described by the Mean Square Relative Displacement (MSRD) σ2 and by the Mean Square Displacement (MSD) u2of bcc crystals in the X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) have been derived. The effective interatomic potential of the system has been considered by taking into account the influences of nearest atomic neighbors, and it contains the Morse potential characterizing the interaction of each pair of atoms. Numerical results for u2, σ2 and CR of Fe and W are found to be in good agreement with experiment. The ratios CR/u2 and CR/σ2 approach constant values at high temperatures showing the same properties obtained by the Debye model.

silicon oxides, and zirconium oxides.1.1.7From Inorganic Porous Frameworks to PorousMetal-organic Frameworks (MOFs)From natural zeolites to the recently discovered meso- and macro-porous materials, theordered porous frameworks are all constructed by inorganic species. However, in the pastten years, a new family of porous compounds composed of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) has attracted enormous attention. The main reason is that the poor thermal andchemical stability of MOFs has been somewhat improved. In addition, the discovery ofsome advantages of MOFs that are lacking in molecular sieves and mesoporous materialshas also stimulated the research on MOFs.In 2001, Chen et al. synthesized a coordination polymer, Cu3(BTB)2(H2O)(DMF)9(H2O)2 (MOF-14) (BTB-4,40 ,400 -benzene-1,3,5-triyltribenzoic acid), from which theDMF could be removed by heating at 250 C under inert gas flow.[17] The N2 and Aradsorption isotherms of MOF-14 are of type-I, confirming its microporous structure. Theadsorption isotherms of MOF-5 are also characteristic of type-I. Adsorptions of CO, CH4,CH2Cl2, CCl4, C6H6, C6H12 and m-xylene in these materials are all reversible, as in zeolites. However, the pore volume for MOF-14 is 0.53 cm3/g whereas the specific surfacearea is 1502 cm2/g, and these two values are distinctly higher than the corresponding onesfor inorganic microporous compounds. In 2002, Yaghi and coworkers reported thesynthesis of a microporous compound (MOF-5), Zn4O(R1-BDC)3 (R1 ¼ H), by thecrystallization of Zn(NO3)24H2O and 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate (terephthalate (BDC)in N,N-diethylformamide (DEF) solvent at 85$105 C.[18] The microporous frameworkof this compound is constructed by the primary building unit of the [Zn4O(CO2)6]octahedron and bridging R groups. Yaghi and coworkers used different BDC derivativesand related naphthalene -2,6-dicarboxylic acid (2,6-NDC) and triphenyldicarboxylate(TpDC) compounds to obtain a series of microporous compounds with various pore˚ ), and they found that the pore diameter varies with R. Study on the structure and properties of polypropylene/clay nanocomposites

Polypropylene/ maleic anhydride /organic montmorillonite nanocomposites (PP/ MA/ Org-MMT) have been prepared via direct melt intercalation in an internal mixer. Maleic anhydride (MA) was used as a compatibilizer to improve the dispersability of the clay. The structures of nanocomposites have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical properties and thermal stability were determined by tensile analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. The XRD patterns, TEM and SEM image showed exfoliation of Org-MMT layers in PP matrix and existence of both the exfoliated, intercalated structures of the formed nanocomposites in presence of 1% MA. The tensile strength, elongation at break, and thermal stability of PP/MA/Org-MMT nanocomposites was higher than those of neat PP. MA played a very important role in reduction of size of Org-MMT and improved its dispersion in PP matrix.

Special characteristics of high power semiconductor laser of matrix structure packaged in Vietnam

The semiconductor diode laser chips AlGaAs of the matrix structure (linear bars arrays structure), having an output opticalpower of 2W were packaged at the semiconductor laser labrotary - Institute of Materials Science. We have studied some its properties such as: the temperature dependence of laser threshold, output optical power; the transfer heat of laser chip and pump current of laser. The study of spectral structure showed that the operating wavelength area of laser and structure of the longitudinal multimode depend on temperature and pump current. The above results allow to improve the packaging technology of the high power semiconductor laser chips, and then to open possibilities of its applications in Vietnam.

Analysisof microstructure and phase composition indicates that the addition of La can prohibit the further growth ofgrain, and no impurity phase appears. The results revealed that the La doping can lead to a large change ofthe activation energy (from 0.22 to 0.02 eV), and thus result in a marked increase in electric conductivity of2–4 orders of magnitude. The power factor can reach about 1.5×10−4 W·m−1 ·K−2 in a wide temperaturerange, which potentially make them attractive for n-type high-temperature thermoelectric materials.KEY WORDS: CaMnO3 ; Thermoelectric; Activation energy; Seebeck coefficient1.
