Association and path analysis in lentil (Lens culinaris M.) genotypes for seed and seedling characteristics

Thirty genotypes of lentil were evaluated for their seed and seedling characteristics in randomized block design with three replications to study the association and path analysis for different characters. Observations were recorded on 100 seed weight, seed volume, true density, bulk density, porosity, water absorption capacity, water absorption index, germination, seedling length, seedling fresh weight, seedling dry weight and seedling vigour index. The association analysis revealed that the 100 seed weight was positively and significantly correlated with seed volume, water absorption capacity and seedling dry weight, whereas water absorption index, seedling length and seedling vigour index had negative and significant correlation with 100 seed weight. Path analysis was carried out by taking 100 seed weight as dependent variable and other traits as independent variables.

Consistency and reliability of the MedianLC
Using the data from Experiment 1, the consistency and reliability of the MedianLC was assessed using an intra- class correlation coefficient (ICC). To examine consis- tency within a session, we separated the 15 s data into two 7.5 s components and computed the MedianLC for each component for each participant. We then com- puted the ICC of the MedianLC between the first half and second half of the measurement. The ICC was 0.949 for the initial measurements and 0.948 for the final measurement, suggesting the MedianLC is highly consistent within a measurement. To confirm the relia- bility across the sessions, we compared the MedianLC between the initial and final measurements (including in the healthy participant, H1), assuming that the same measurements were repeated under the same conditions for each patient. The ICC was 0.881, which is relatively high. Given that the HANDS therapy (undertaken between the initial and final measurements) led to a change in the SIAS score in three patients, the reliability of the current analysis must be considered to be limited. M1 Biological Injuries: Indicators for M2 macro - and micro-mutation in mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek]

Seed treatment with gamma rays, EMS, NG and their combinations in two mungbean genotypes, BKG-1 and OUM 11-5, significantly reduced germination, seedling growth including fresh weight and dry weight, pollen fertility, seed fertility and survival at maturity in M1 over the parents. The biological damage in M1 generation showed a dose dependent linear relationship. NG in both single and combination treatments resulted in more pronounced biological damage than other treatments. Five types of chlorophyll mutations (albina, xantha, chlorina, viridis and sectorial) and nineteen different morphological macro-mutations were recorded in M2. Population variance in M2 increased in each mutagenic treatment of both the varieties over the respective control for six quantitative traits including seed yield.

Estimation of genetic variability, correlation and path analysis for seed yield characters in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

The experimental material comprised of 21 chickpea genotypes and the experiment was laid out in Randomised Complete Block Design with three replications, during rabi, 2017 Maximum GCV and PCV were recorded for seed yield per plant and harvest index. High genetic advance as percent of mean recorded for seed yield per plant. Seed yield per plant showed high positive significant correlation with harvest index and pods per plant at phenotypic and genotypic levels. Biological yield and Harvest index exhibited high direct positive effect on seed yield per plant at phenotypic and genotypic levels. Genotypes C138, C108, C201 and C1021 of chickpea were found to be superior for seed yield per plant.

Management of lentil wilt through host resistance

Lentil (Lens culinaris) is affected by the wilt disease caused by fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lentis at seedling stage and at the later stages of growth. The pathogen is soil and seed borne in nature and reported from all lentil growing areas. The present investigation is on the management of the lentil wilt pathogen by exploiting the resistance mechanism of the host. Ninety two germplasms were screened along with the local check (Sehore) under field conditions during the two consecutive years 2016-17 and 2017-18. The reactions of the host against the pathogen were recorded in the wilt sick plot by calculating the per cent of number of infected plants over total plants observed. The germplasms were further categorized into Immune (0 germplasm), Highly Resistant (11 germplasm), Resistant (13 germplams), Moderately Resistant (18 germplams), Susceptible (40 germplams) and Highly Susceptible (10 germplams) depending on the disease reaction. Wilt incidence was varied from 0.33 percent to 96.67 percent during the year 2016-17 and 0.75 percent to 93.56 percent during the year 2017-18. None of the screened germplams was found immune against the disease. Eleven germplasms viz., DL16-5, DL16-7, VL152, IPL339, IPL340, PL237, RL7-3, RVL15-5, IPL227, IPL338 and IPL332 were found highly resistant to the disease under the field conditions. The present investigation suggests that the resistance in the lentil germplasms can be exploited for the management of the seed and soil borne pathogens and is an effective management practice with less use of inputs.

Evaluation of Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) genotypes to the shaded uplands of Southern region

The sesame germplasm consisting of thirty three accessions were assessed for the extent of variability, degree and direction of character association among yield and its contributing traits and the direct and indirect effects of various components on yield. Analysis of variance showed significant differences among the genotypes for almost all the characters studied. High and moderate phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation (PCV and GCV) were noticed for most of the yield contributing characters. Highest and lowest PCV and GCV were recorded for number of capsules per unit length and 1000-seed weight respectively.

Genetic variability and correlation analysis in nigella (Nigella sativum L.) assessed in south eastern Rajasthan, India

Nigella (Nigella sativa L.) is an important seed spice crop having high medicinal importance. Genetic variability, correlation and path analysis was carried out in thirteen nigella genotypes to work out the magnitude of variability for yield and yield contributing traits and also to understand the mutual relationship among the characters. The results revealed that primary and secondary branches per plant, seeds per plant, capsules per plant and biological yield per plant are important yield contributing traits having high heritability as well as strong correlation with seed yield. Therefore, effective selection can be exercised for these traits for realizing higher yield levels in nigella.

The present experiment was conducted to study correlation and path analysis for yield and quality traits of 28 genotypes. Significant variations were found among the genotypes for characters studied. The correlation coefficient analysis at genotypic level revealed that fruit yield per vine had positive and significant association with fruit number per vine (0.85), fruit weight (0.613), fruit equatorial diameter (0.53), ascorbic acid content (0.69) and crude fibre content (0.49).

Character association and path analysis in diverse genotypes of pea (Pisum sativum L.)

Fifty-five pea (Pisum sativum L.) genotypes were evaluated using eleven morphological traits to assess the interrelationship among yield and yield-related attributes and their direct and indirect effects on seed yield. Based on the correlation coefficient analysis, seed yield per plant showed positive and significant association with green pod yield per plant, shell weight per plant, number of pods per plant and length of pod both at genotypic and phenotypic levels. Path coefficient analysis revealed that direct positive effect on seed yield per plant was exhibited by green pod yield per plant, number of first fruiting node, length of pod, days to 50% flowering and plant height. Hence, from correlation and path analysis it can be inferred that green pod yield per plant and pod length revealed significant and positive correlation and direct positive effect on seed yield and these traits shall be used as key indices towards the direct selection of genotypes for the successful breeding programme for yield improvement of pea germplasm.

Correlation and path-coefficient estimates of yield and yield component traits in rice fallow blackgram [Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper]

Studies on thirty six blackgram genotypes for the association and path analysis, revealed that, the genotypic correlations were in general higher than the phenotypic correlations and thus suggested that the observed relationships among the characters were due to genetic causes. The traits, number of clusters per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod and 100 seed weight were found to possess positive significant association in desirable direction with grain yield per plant either at both genotypic and phenotypic levels.

Variability and genetic advance for seed yield and its components in castor (Ricinus communis L.) germplasm of Crida under rain-fed conditions in Alfisols

Variability in seed yield of castor genotypes and its association between different yield contributing traits as well as genetic advance were studied during kharif-2012 with 23 CRIDA castor genotypes under rain-fed conditions in alfisols. Superior genotypes for yield and its components were identified. The variability for genotypes was significant for seed yield and all its four components studied viz., number of branches, number of nodes, capsule number and capsule weight. The correlation coefficient analysis revealed that seed yield was highly significantly correlated with capsule number and capsule weight. High heritability with high genetic advance as mean (GAM) was observed for capsule number, capsule weight and seed yield, there by revealing that selection for high capsule number and capsule weight will increase the seed yield in castor. Based on the seed yield performance, twelve genotypes which yielded above 63.57g/pl (average yield of 23 genotypes) were selected for further evaluation of physiological efficiency coupled with seed yield. It was observed that CRC-4 is the only genotype where in the range for five characters was 2-6 ranks, thereby revealing that this is a desirable genotype with higher ranks for all the five characters studied.
