Rice (Oryza sativa) is a staple food in many countries especially in the Asian part of the world. Rice (2n=2x=24) serves as main food diet by the majority of people. It is strictly diploid in nature. The demand for rice is increasing day by day due to increase in population pressure in India. A field experiment was conducted during Kharif season in 2015 to check the effect of different nitrogen sources on the yield of Direct Seeded Rice and also to find out the best combination of nitrogen sources for integrated nutrient management.

EFFECT OF SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION AND NITROGEN LEVEL ON GROWTH ATTRIBUTES OF HYBRID RICE (ORYZA SATIVA L.)

A field trial was conducted to investigate the effect of spatial distribution and different levels of nitrogen on growth of hybrid rice variety PA 6201, comprising of 16 different treatments using randomized complete block design with three replications at agronomy research farm of Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Faizabad (U.P.), India during the season of Kharif in the year 2012. It was found that the spacing of 20×15 cm was found significantly superior over other geometric configurations and at par with closer spacing 20×10 cm for the entire growth characteristics. Application of 187.5 kg N ha-1 proved to be better over other in respect to all growth attributes. There has been an increase in plant height, number of tillers, leaf area index as well as in dry matter of the plant.

Effect of zinc levels and moisture regimes on growth and yield of direct seeded rice

A field experiment was conducted during rainy (kharif) season of 2017 in Split Plot Design with three replications at Crop Research Centre of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Bihar. The treatments consist of four moisture regimes in main plots and four zinc levels in sub plots. The result showed that plant height (110.40 cm), no. of tillers/plant (360.91), LAI (5.17), SPAD value (39.38), panicle length (24.62 cm), no. of spikelets/panicle (84.40), grain yield (33.14 q/ha), were found to be maximum with I1 moisture regime which were significantly superior over I3 and I4 but was statistically at par with I2. With regard to zinc levels plant height (109.82 cm), no. of tillers/m2 (357.06), LAI (5.08), SPAD value (39.21), panicle length (24.29 cm), were found maximum with Z3 which was significantly superior over Z1 but was statistically at par with Z2 and Z4. No. of spikelets/panicle (84.41), grain yield (32.57 q/ha), were found maximum with Z3 which was significantly superior over Z1 and Z4 but was statistically at par with Z2.

Study concluded that Pooled means of seed rates at Sakoli indicated that sowing of 75 kg seed ha-1 (3458 kg ha-1 ) was expressively higher in grain yield but was at par with sowing of 50 kg seedha-1 .

EVALUATION OF DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF AEROBIC RICE (ORYZA SATIVA L.) UNDER DIFFERENT FERTIGATION LEVELS ON GROWTH AND YIELD PARAMETERS

A field experiment was conducted at Water Technology Centre, College farm, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad during kharif, 2015 to study the “Response of different varieties of aerobic rice (Oryza sativa l.) under drip fertigation levels.” The experiment was conducted with three main treatments and four sub treatments. The main treatments were three rice varieties (RNR 15048, MTU 1010 and Anagha) and the sub treatments were four different fertigation levels (S0: Control, S75:90-45-30 kg N-P2O5-K2O ha-1 , S100:120-60-40 kg N-P2O5-K2O ha-1 , S125:150-75-50- N-P2O5-K2O ha-1 . Drip irrigation was scheduled once in 3 days based on daily data of USWB class „A‟ pan evaporimeter at 1.5 Epan.

Effect of irrigation scheduling and nitrogen application on yield, grain quality and soil microbial activities in direct–seeded rice

Directseeded rice (DSR) is the technology which is A field experiment was carried out to study the response of irrigation scheduling and split application of nitrogen on yield, grain quality parameters and soil microbial activities of directseeded rice (DSR) during the kharif season 2015 at New Delhi. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with 12 treatments combination of irrigation scheduling viz; 0 kPa, 10 kPa, 20 kPa and 40 kPa irrigation scheduling threshold was maintained between tillering to flowering stages in main plot and application of N @ 120 kg/ha as control (N0), half recommended dose of nitrogen (RDN) as basal + one-fourth RDN at week 2 + one-fourth RDN at week 5, and one-fourth RDN as basal + one-fourth RDN at week 2 + one-fourth RDN at week 5 + one-fourth RDN at week 9 after sowing in sub plot with three replications. The results bring to light that irrigation scheduling at 0 kPa recorded the highest yield, grain quality parameters and soil microbial activities. As regards of N application the yield, grain quality parameters and soil microbial activities were significantly influenced by split application of N. With increase in the number of splits application along with basal application found more effective over control.

Effect of steaming on accelerated ageing of rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Naturally aged rice is generally preferred in Indian subcontinent since, it swells better during cooking, cooked kernels are less sticky with more linear elongation and produces thin gruel. Natural ageing is done by storing harvested paddy for at least 4-6 months before milling. Accelerated ageing is an artificial technique that induces ageing effect in rice within a short period of time. Under hydrothermal treatment, dry (@14% moisture) paddy samples were steamed at three pressures (0.0, 0.5 and 1.0 kg/cm2 gauge) for 5, 10 and 15 min. The treated paddy samples were milled to study milling, physico-chemical, cooking and textural characteristics of rice. Among all the treatments studied, paddy steaming @ 1.0 kg/cm2 , 5 minwas found to be best for accelerated ageing of rice.
