Design and power quality analysis of hybrid renewable energy system for Tho Chu island, Vietnam

Using renewable energy sources for providing electricity in remote area is an economical-technical solution and reduces environmental pollution. Tho Chu island, Phu Quoc district, Kien Giang province, is currently supplied by diesel generators, causing environmental pollution and high-power generation costs. This article presents hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) design including diesel generator, photovoltaic system and energy storage system for Tho Chu Island. In addition to calculating and selecting of equipment, ensuring power supply for the load, the paper also examines the frequency and voltage quality, considers the harmonic distortion of the power supply system. The simulation results obtained from PYsyst and Matlab/Simulink software show the effectiveness of the HRES.

Control of two-wheeled inverted pendulum robot using robust pi and LQR controllers

In this paper, a robust PI controller in combination with a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is proposed to control a two-wheeled inverted pendulum robot (TWIPR) such that it is kept balanced while moving. The proposed TWIPR control system consists of two control loops. The inner loop has two PI controllers for two DC motors’ currents, which are separately designed based on a robust PI controller structure. The outer loop contains a LQR controller for the tilt angle, heading angle and position of the TWIPR. The proposed PI controller is compared to the existing method such as the magnitude optimum (MO) and genetic algorithm (GA) methods. The proposed control scheme is verified through simulations and practical tests, and it is also compared to the MO-LQR and GA-LQR strategies.

This paper deals with the finitetime stability and H∞ control of linear discretetime delay systems. The system under consideration is subject to interval timevarying delay and normbounded disturbances. Linear matrix inequality approach is used to solve the finitetime stability problem. First, new sufficient conditions are established for robust finitetime stability of the linear discretetime delay system subjected to normbounded disturbances, then the state feedback controller is designed to robustly finitetime stabilize the system and guarantee an adequate level of system performance. The delaydependent sufficient conditions are formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

In developing the virtualization of the CPU, we focused on a general mechanism known as limited direct execution (or LDE). The idea behind LDE is simple: for the most part, let the program run directly on the hardware; however, at certain key points in time (such as when a process issues a system call, or a timer interrupt occurs), arrange so that the OS gets involved and makes sure the “right” thing happens. Thus, the OS, with a little hardware support, tries its best to get out of the way of the running program, to deliver an efficient virtualization; however, by interposing at those critical points in time, the OS ensures that it maintains control over the hardware. Efficiency and control together are two of the main goals of any modern operating system. In virtualizing memory, we will pursue a similar strategy, attaining both efficiency and control while providing the desired virtualization. Efficiency dictates that we make use of hardware support, which at first will be quite rudimentary (e.g., just a few registers) but will grow to be fairly complex (e.g., TLBs, pagetable support, and so forth, as you will see). Control implies that the OS ensures that no application is allowed to access any memory but its own; thus, to protect applications from one another, and the OS from applications, we will need help from the hardware here too. Finally, we will need a little more from the VM system, in terms of flexibility; specifically, we’d like for programs to be able to use their address spaces in whatever way they would like, thus making the system easier to program. And thus we arrive at the refined crux:

The remarkable feature of sliding mode control (SMC) is the stability robustness against disturbances and variations of the system. However to design SMC, the exact model of the plant has to be known. Moreover the large gain of an SMC may intensify the chattering on the sliding surface. To cope with the above drawbacks, we propose to use a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) to estimate the plant model and to use a fuzzy based gain for the SMC. This SMC gain is developed based on Lyapunov stability theory. The proposed algorithm is applied to control a three degrees of freedom robot manipulator, which is a complex MIMO (Multi input multi output) nonlinear system. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the proposed method.

The welfare of a threatened environment now needs another component, sustainability, to complement safety and function. For this reason, civil engineering has given birth to the more specialized field of environmental engineering. Environmental engineering combines all of the classic principles of engineering into a newer philosophy in which humans work with nature rather than try to invent ways to force their will on nature. Is it an exaggeration to say that humans have had a history of forcing nature into unnatural conditions? Some of civilization’s greatest engineering feats have had tremendous impacts on the environment, either by altering habitat or interfering with the normal behavior and propagation of plants and animals. Even a beginning student in environmental science can recognize the damage done to the landscape by things such as the Great Wall of China, the Panama Canal, crosscontinent superhighways and railroads, or the Alaska pipeline. Compact 3U as a novel artificial lighting source for gloxinia (sinningia spp.) and potato (solanum tuberosum) micropropagation

An efficient lighting system (Compact 3U) was successfully applied to the micropropagation of gloxinia and potato plants. To compare the in vitro growth of plantlets under Neon and Compact 3U lighting systems, gloxinia and potato shoots were cultured on suitable media at different light intensities: (1) 45 µmol m-2s -1 (under Neon lighting system as a control); (2) 45 µmol m-2s -1, (3) 60 µmol m-2s -1, and (4) 75 µmol m-2s -1 (under Compact 3U lighting systems). The results obtained after 3 weeks of in vitro culture and 6 weeks of acclimatization in a greenhouse showed that the growth of plantlets cultured under the Compact 3U system was better than that under Neon lighting system. The Compact 3U lighting source had a highly significant effect on the growth and development of gloxinia and potato plantlets. Besides, the data in our study also indicated that gloxinia and potato plantlets adapted differently to different lighting sources and light intensities.
